VEX Robotics

The Kealakehe Tiki Techs participates in VEX as team 3880. The VEX Robotics Competition encourages students to explore careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). In VEX, students must design, build and program their robots to play a game which changes every year. The competition pushes creativity and efficiency while being strong leaders, team players and effective problem solvers. This year’s game is VEX Starstruck.In this game, two alliances made of two teams each have to compete against each other in a race against the clock to score Stars and Cubes in your Zones. The object of the game is to attain a higher score than the opposing Alliance by Scoring your Stars and Cubes in your Zones and by Hanging Robots on your Hanging Bar. There is a twenty-second autonomous period followed by two minutes of driver-controlled play. In the autonomous period, drivers have no control of their robot. Their robots are pre-programmed to do everything on its own. This year de-scoring is legal and there is a 10point parking bonus. Binders

Every student participating in our VEX robotics program has their own engineering binder. Inside they have things such as the official rule book, field drawings, strategy maps, CAD drawings, robot designs and personal reflections. Many students add pictures and writings to their binders to explain what they have accomplished and what they want to accomplish in the future.

This season the Tiki Techs have won many awards at various competitions around the US.

Excellence Award (3880A) at HI-RES 2012 for accomplishments in robot performance in Kailua-Kona, HI

Think Award at Waiakea VEX League for achievements in programming in Hilo, HI

Amaze Award (3880C) at Vanden High Sack Attack Tournament in Fairfield, CA
